Who hasnt fantasized with impossible crossovers of our favorite characters? Iron Man vs Batman, Superman vs Captain America or Lelouch vs Light Yagami? Well our wish appeared to be granted when Jump Force was announced anime fans cheered with joy as our dream of our favorite characters teaming up was too good to be true.
and it was.The marketing team bombarded us with taser after taser of our childhood heroes and villains interacting like we always wanted them too, Sasuke teamed up with the likes of Frieza might have taken some of us by surprise and seeing Yugi Moto against almost godlike beings was more bizarre than any of Jotaros adventures but we didnt cared. We were finally going to see one of the biggest crossovers and play in the shoes of our favorite anime hero.
So? It all sounds perfect, the characters were voiced by their original voice actors and they acted and looked like they did in their Anime. This game was our dream come true, how did it possible failed to meet our expectations?
Once the dust has cleared and we took our nostalgia glasses off we started to see the games faults, and they werent that hard to spot. Clunky animations, simplistic plot and a disappointing payoff were the biggest complains about the game. Our favorite villains were reduced as mere minions serving a villain that was so forgettable i bet none who played the game even remember his name or his motives, why create an original villain when you have Madara or Dio to fill that position?
Even Seto Kaiba a guy with no powers at all has more personality and would have been a better pick as the big cheese.Youtube soon was filled with clips of Frieza awkwardly floating without moving an inch, Vegetas head moving to an impossible angle and the protagonist looking at our heroes with dead cold eyes like a plastic doll. Reviewers slammed the game left and right mocking every justified and unjustified mistake, even the DLC and patches couldnt manage to revive the hype of the initial launch.
After its baptize of fire and ridicule compared to Assassins creed Unitys own initial trashing the reviewers moved on and the crowd went back to talk about more popular entries. Its sales on America werent decent but didnt managed to reach top spot. On Japan as expected it reached top spot and was met a more warm reception than it did overseas, the ending of the game obviously set up a sequel but considering it didnt attracted a more general audience as it hoped for.
However it wasnt a flop financially speaking and it may guarantee the sequel it wanted, if it does come around luckily the people in charge will realize we want a story that does justice to the characters we love and cherish.Or at least one with an antagonist that gives our heroes a run for their money.written by Starnatas
