I doubt the cell phone did it (the cell phone companies aren't going to sell something that is blinding people, they don't want to be getting sued all the time). Also if the phone did it, wouldn't it have messed up both eyes. Maybe it is some kind of eye infection?

Simply restore the phone back to factory setting and the keypad light will turn On again IF this wasn't a tech fault with the phone BUT if the restoration didn't help solve the problem than take the phone back to from where you've bought it and they will troubleshoot the problem

For security, cordless phones must exchange codes between handsets and base. The two halves of your phone are now out of sync because of the power interruption.
There ought to be instructions in your Uniden manual on how to re-sync the security code. With no manual, my first guess would be to remove and replace the handset battery, then immediately plug it into the base

The screen was completely black but the phone still worked. I took it in to Verizon and they said there was nothing they could do, it was shot. Take it to your cell phone carrier and see what they can do.
