Which is easier to learn, Watercolor or Oil painting?
i first learned portrait painting with oil...it is, of course, beautiful, and for me it was easier to correct any mistakes....but i have always loved the look of watercolor portraits. ...my solution was to use a combination of watercolor, transparent and opaque, and lately, fluid acrylics....the last painting i did turned out nicely and the fluid acrylics seemed to make the difference

Any tips for cool watercolor effects?
Avoid the use of too much salt, it is sometimes overdone. Try wetting the background carefully around the figure and then dropping in two or three complementary colors from what you have used as dominate color in the girl and let the colors mingle. Then use Saran Wrap and lay it on top of the wet paint and leave it until it is dry. This will leave an interesting pattern on the paint. You can also crumple up waxed paper and use it in the same way

can you use watercolor to paint on wood?
if would is not sealed, then watercolor paints would sink in and desaturate , marker ink would fill ok, but would run and disperse out of line areas, if wood has stain or sealer , then marker would cover ok, but watercolor paint may bubble off or repel and not stick to that stain of varnish, you may be better to test on back of frame on one spot, or not use,

What's the difference between Colored Pencils and Watercolored Pencils?
Colouring pencils are used just for colouring with the lead or whatever is at the end. Watercolour pencils are used for watercolour painting. For example, if you draw something with watercolour pencils, you can use a wet brush to blend the colours or paint over it, and the watercolour pencils will blend. I would have to say that watercolour pencils may be more sensitive to moisture, if you have sweaty hands or something. Coloured pencils wo not blend with water

Watercolor paper
Watercolor paper is paper or substrate onto which an artist applies watercolor paints, pigments or dyes. There are currently many types of paper available that are manufactured for the use with watercolors. Watercolor paper can be made of wood pulp exclusively, or mixed with cotton fibers. Pure cotton watercolor paper is also used by artists though it typically costs more than paper. It is also available as an acid-free medium to help its preservation. Watercolor paper can be described according to the manufacturing process. It can be hot pressed, cold pressed or rough. A number of companies sell watercolor papers, some of them with a long history of production. Papyrus was used as a 'paper' onto which the Egyptians applied their water-based paints or pigments. Arches began production of watercolor paper around 1620. It provided most of the paper used in France during the 1700s. In addition to watercolor paper, Arches also produced paper that was used in documents and paper that was used as currency during the revolution in France. Arches joined other paper manufacturers in the 1950s to form Arjomari Prioux. Woven paper was used in print publication in the late 1760s because it was found to be smoother. The watercolor paper at this time was used by artists because it allowed the application of paint without the unevenness of molded paper. James Whatman created a paper specifically for use with water colors by the 1780s. He used gelatin as a sizing that created a protective coating that reduced damage to the paper by repeated wetting, drying and reworking.
