Which is more important, journey or destination?
Let's first look at what these two are. A destination is the place to which someone or something is going or being sent to. This could be literally a place or a scenario or even a time. If it is a destination you want to go or be taken to, it can be called a goal. Journey on the other hand is the act of 'traveling' to a destination. Therefore, it is fair to believe that for one to have a journey, there should be a destination in the first place. If you mean destination as a place or point where we all will end up, it is death. If there is anything that is definite about our lives, it is we all will face death - "valamagulis". Since this is too obvious, I will assume your answer is about journeys and other destination/s we want to go or we are taken to. I will also assume that by 'life' you mean the current life we all live in, because some believe that there is also a life after we all die. They call this the afterlife. To make things simpler I will categorize the answer to three types of people.1. People driven by an ultimate goal or destination. Some people have an ultimate goal or a place where they want to reach in life. Their main purpose is to follow actions and decisions that will take them to this ultimate goal. This can be something in their current life or their 'afterlife' - some people are devoted to a belief that says there is a life after death where they will live for perpetuity (forever - like there is no end of time) and some believe that there is no life after death but they have an ultimate goal in their life which they want to reach. Strong devotees of afterlife believe that the current life we live in is about a journey that will take them to their ultimate destination. For people who are devoted to a specific ultimate goal in their current life who do not believe in an afterlife, life is about that destination. Once this destination is reached, their life is about a journey that lasts till they reach death.2. People driven by destinations that change over their span of life. Some people have goals that change over their life. Goals can change based on interest, possibilities, change over success, and a lot of other things. They do not have an ultimate goal but they are focused on many goals and if they reach a goal, they choose another goal and start a journey for that goal. For them life is about a set of journeys that takes them to destinations they want.3. People with no destinations. There are people who do not have any goal/s in their life. I am categorizing them as people who also do not believe there is an afterlife and even if they do believe, they are not necessarily bothered about it. For them, life is not about a destination or a journey either. Its just a flowing river. So to summarize, it depends on if you have a goal or goals. If you have, I would say life is about a journey or journeys that take/s you to a destination or destinations. I say this because the larger percentage of our life is spent on the journey that takes us to destinations. If you do not have a goal or goals, life is about neither a destination or a journey. Its just a free-flowing river that will just dry out one day and extinct.
