1. Why couldn't NASA video tape the Voyager journey through space?

They could not get cameraman Bart Sibrel to get in the Voyager rockets as he was intending to make money lying about the Apollo missions. Pity about that, we would all be better off if he was out somewhere near the heliopause and frozen solid so he could not open his meretricious gob. Exactly how was technology "much improved" between '69 and '77? When were these probes designed? 1977 or was it four, five or seven years earlier? Do you know what really happened to technology in the 1970s? Cars got loaded down with anti-pollution equipment which guzzled fuel and lowered performance and a very few got anti-lock brakes - like Mercedes Benz top of the line models. Someone invented a rapid DNA analysis but it took until about 2000 to produce the scan of the human genome. Computer memory and CPUs got cheaper with a bit more capacity, making the home computer possible. Personal and scientific computers built into chemical instruments with as many as 16 kilobytes of memory hit the market in the late 1970s. I had one for a few years in the 1980s with 64 kilobytes of memory and almost 1 megahertz CPU speed, and that was considered to be pretty good in 1982 for the money. Rockets are mechanical devices. Does not matter how fast your computer is or how big the memory is, that has no effect on rocket performance. Sure, with computer aided design you might get a 10% better performance compared to something designed with a slide rule. But bolting a computer onto a rocket is just extra mass to haul about. And where would the power for the TV camera and signal transmission come from? Would it be powered by the space probe's internal supply that was direly needed for actual science? How would the extra mass of the probe be justified? Why would they bother to shoot movies of the spacecraft itself? They knew what it looked like. How would the video tape get back to Earth? Would they transmit pictures of the same part of the space probe against a background of stars that barely moved in the picture from one day to the next? How much power would be needed to send these pointless pictures back to Earth? Did you know that the power consumption of a radio / TV transmitter increases with the bandwidth and the bandwidth increases with the data rate? Where would this power come from? Would there be enough light? It's pretty dark out there past Mars, which receives less than half the light than the Earth does and it's a lot further out to Jupiter and Saturn. How long would the camera shutter have to be open to get a picture of Jupiter as a dot in the distance? What would be the point of that if we could get better pictures from ground based telescopes? How would such a waste of resources "prove" the probes were real to you? Even if such thing existed, could not you just claim it was shot in a studio? And exactly what is your source for claiming the diamond lens was to survive the VA belts? Did it occur to you that it might have been for some other purpose, perhaps to transmit infra red or ultraviolet radiation into a camera without partially absorbing it? Do you know that the Moon's surface temperature maxes at about 120C when the Sun is directly overhead? Did you know that the Apollo landing sites were chosen so that the Sun would be low in the sky and the lunar surface temperatures not so high - early in the morning on the Moon, which lasts a few days since the lunar day is 28 Earth days long? Did you know temperatures in a house fire are far higher? Did you know firemen already wear breathing gear and fire resistant clothing which is clumsy enough (I've seen them) without being as clumsy as full space suit? EDIT. Armstrong descending from the landing module. There was a TV camera in a box bolted to one of the lander's legs. As Armstrong prepared to descend the ladder, he or Aldrin pulled a cable connected to the box and by a miracle of technology, the box opened and the camera turned on. This has been answered dozens of times if not hundreds. Sibrel is a liar who was punched in the face a few years ago by Aldrin. The laws vary from state to state about where the cameras are used and what is done with the information that is collected. There is something that I would caution you about and that is, if you are reluctant to be on video while sitting with a chilf or elderly parent, why? There are occassions that should be captured so that the person who is caring for someone steals, goes through belongings in the house, hurts or is abusive to someone and these things should be documented as far as I am concerned.I have had a special needs child who was assaulted by a caregiver and his belongings have been stolen at several places, and even not cared for by the caregiver but was pushed in his wheelchair by another client and left in the snow! How would you feel about that if it were your child? I do not believe the laws are too stringent, but you must know what is allowed in your own state. Hope this helps.
