Sony is overweight its image sensor business to grab dividends in the multi camera mobile phone market. Sony plans to increase its image sensor production capacity to 138000 pieces per month by March 2021, and build a new factory in Nagasaki, Japan, to continue to expand production capacity.
On November 21, Shinzo Kimura, chairman and CEO of Sony Semiconductor Technology Co., Ltd., said, "in fiscal 2019, Sony semiconductor is expected to achieve sales of 1.04 trillion yen, and image sensors will contribute 890 billion, of which 80% will come from mobile image sensors, and China is undoubtedly the largest market!".
Sony expects the operating profit in fiscal year 2019 to reach 840 billion yen, of which the operating profit of semiconductor business will reach 200 billion yen, accounting for about a quarter of Sony's annual operating profit. In the future, Sony will graft its advantages in the field of high-end mobile phone photography into the fields of robots, UAVs, automatic driving, automatic production and security, hoping to become a global leader in the field of sensing.
Sony semiconductor business named "image and sensing solutions" in the first quarter of fiscal 2019 continued to grow this year. Following the year-on-year growth of 14% in sales from April to June this year and the increase of operating profit from 29.1 billion yen to 49.5 billion yen in the same period last year, the year-on-year growth of sales from July to September this year was 22% to 310.7 billion yen, and the year-on-year growth of operating profit was 28.5 billion yen to 76.4 billion yen.
It can also be seen from the market situation in the past two years that the mobile image sensor business in the domestic mobile phone market has been growing. Sony said that the most important business is the business in the mobile phone field, as well as monitoring, vehicle and other businesses. "China has a complete mobile phone ecosystem. Sony should actively join this ecosystem"!
