What are some good working model project ideas for sustainable development theme?
You might start by thinking about what you mean by "sustainable". You probably do not mean forever because even the sun is going to burn out in a few billion years. So begin by picking a reasonable time scale. Since technology evolves quickly, you probably do not want to pick a time scale hundreds of times longer than a technology generation time. In the last 100 years we basically discovered how to control some chemistry, electricity, process information, manipulate atomic nuclei and DNA. So making a system that is static and recycles everything using circa 2014 technology for 1000 years is going to be obsolete in less than 100 years. Another consideration is for slow processes that we would like to preserve. Species evolution, especially for large animals, is much slower than technological evolution. We probably need to segregate "nature preserves" from "technology areas" if we are to continue having things like elephants and tuna. We also need to be careful about spill over from the technology domain into the natural domain. Things like accidentally changing the composition of our atmosphere are going to have dramatic impact on the slow-adapting natural domain.Think about interfaces between technology domains and the natural world. What materials and energy flows are exchanged between these domains. Think about extractive processes that disturb nature preserves (e.g. Alaska National Wildlife Reserve oil drilling) as well as uncontained emissive processes (e. g. atmospheric CO2 dumping, fertilizer runoff, etc.). What are some other ways that we disturb nature? Covering it up with solar farms, whacking birds and bats with wind turbine blades, modifying the pH of the ocean, bleaching coral reefs as we warm the oceans, ...? Stabilizing these unintended consequences on the 100,000 year timescale is IMHO the main challenge as we seek sustainability. NHS Sustainable Development Unit
The Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) is a British government agency with the purpose of embedding the principles of sustainable development, social value and the wider determinants of health across the health and social care system in England. The SDU develops tools, policy and research to help people and organisations to promote sustainable development and adapt to climate change. The SDU is co-funded by NHS England and Public Health England, and hosted within NHS England. It has a cross-system advisory group that includes the Department of Health, DEFRA and most of the major national health agencies. The SDU calculated the first comprehensive carbon footprint for the NHS in 2008, and in 2012 for the whole health and social care system. The NHS was the first major organisation to measure its Scope 3 supply chain carbon emissions in 2008 and recognise that it was impossible to achieve its carbon reduction targets without also working to achieve a significant reduction in supply chain emissions. SDU staff are based in Cambridge.

What is the importance of sustainable development to cities?
Look at public transit, city farms, building regulations, types of development that are encouraged, etc

Why sustainable development is good for developin economies?
with constant money infusion, sustainable development and better management of projects can be attained by developing countries, it sums up to a better economic recovery

The (IPCC) says that, to put humanity on the path to sustainable development, we need "rapid, profound and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society". At the international level, what major changes must we make?
Firstly - The human birth rate MUST be drastically and immediately reduced to a fraction of it's current rate. This would take universal awareness of the reasons for the reduction, which would take universal education and communication, together with cessation of financial assistance or benefits for having children. Realistically this is particularly for children who are highly dependent on resources for survival, without ability to become self sustainable. This will never happen though, our species is going to self destruct on the altar of political correctness.Second would be to reduce or cease wasting essential natural resources. AIR (protection of rainforest and plants. Pollution prevention and clean up) WATER (ditto rainforest and plants, prevention of polution and errosion, less wasteful use of water resources) FOOD - Value farmland and farmers. Financially assist farmers - particularly those who respect the land and wildlife.Third - build houses and factories UNDERGROUND and on DESERTS - We have the technology. Fertile land should be utilised for growing trees and plants (grasses and food crops) livestock and wildlife, because this is their planet too.Lastly - alternative sources of power energy used and fossil fuel quickly and totally phased out. Can you just imagine America (for example) agreeing to even one of the above recommendations? Let alone China, Russia or Japan, and just forget about the basket case that is Africa. It has to be universal, and that's never going to happen. The (IPCC) says that, to put humanity on the path to sustainable development, we need "rapid, profound and unprecedented changes in all aspects of society".
