1. Does Taobao greatly boost the development of China, why?
Taobao is not only providing more chioce for consumer, but also killing traditional markets.
rightnow, Taobao has already eating 10% of chinese consumer markets. And growing more and more faster. In USA, people buy house appiliance may go to Targets, something like that.
Buying furniture, may to IKEA. Buying toys may go to supermarkets . In china, we all go to Taobao.
this is toys. This sofa in taobaoShops and market are almost dying in china. Wholesale which can stay low price still can alive now.
If any country wants to develops E-bussiness,you have to ready the traditional market will dead and workers in shop will losing all the jobs. The most important reasons is that, china is so call "factory of the world" . It means that this country produce almost everything in the world and the price is much cheaper than markets.
In Taobao, not only selling clothing, house appliance, and cell phone. Everything legals in the world you can buy in taobao. There are even Turbofan, industry machines accessory, CNC machine tools.
Special equipment. Taobao can completely replace profession markets in china. This is turbofan.
This is helicopter engines. This is small CNC mechine tools which student or DIYer useEverything in Taobao, Its funny and cheaper than markets. So many special thing even turbofan, CNC machine tool, helicopter engines can buy in the Taobao, why I need to go to the shop or market, open a car to cargo?
Taobao directly send it to my house

2. Where should I buy my guitar?
Guitar Center or your local music shop may be the quickest way to buy a guitar.
But it is not the cheapest way, as they operate for profit and they purchase instruments for a lower cost than what you will pay.Buy from a desperate person who is down on their luck and is on the way to try to sell a guitar in a hurry. Stay away from the drug addicts.
have a few hundred saved and then just wait for the opportunity while keeping your eyes peeled. the only way to get prices better than that is to buy from thieves and I don't recommend that. There is also a good opportunity in broken stuff.
you can buy broken guitars or project guitars on eBay for incredibly cheap and then you can throw a few hundred at your local luthier and get some parts and you can have a pretty decent guitar for less than what you would pay otherwise. it takes a lot of work but it strengthens your relationship with your luthier and ends you up with a custom instrument and that will always play better than the factory standard stuff!

How in the world can Ikea sell pretty good chairs for sixty-five dollars apiece and a pretty good dining table for less than two hundred?
Well, I think I am entitled to explain something about this, as I frequently travelled (before COVID) to South East Asia to help the furniture industry manage new projects about developing design and branding. When there, in some occasions I was invited as a Judge in some exhibits like MIFF and EFE (Malaysia) for the best product competition.
Malaysia is one of the top exporters of the world as for wooden furniture, mostly made in rubberwood, which is technically a very good wood essence. The industries in Malaysia are quite advanced vs. others in the area (Indonesia, Myanmaru2026) and the workers are paid good salaries and a pension fund.
They are not u201cslave laboru201d or something like this. The companies are modernly organized, some have automatized processes and use CNC machines, but the majority is still doing things with manual-driven machines. This means that the workforce for each company is higher than what we have in the West.
The typical wage for a factory worker is around 1,500/2,000 MYR, which is perfectly adequate to live, especially outside the main cities. In Western terms, this equates to around 500 USD. Timber is plentiful, so it costs little.
And the quality of craftsmanship, while not exceptional, is routinely good. This means that you can actually buy a solid wood chair for around 20 USD FOB like the one on top in Malaysia without having to be as big as Ikea. Ikea would spend much less than this.
If you switch to less advanced (in technical and social terms) countries like Indonesia and Myanmar, the prices are MUCH LESS than what you see above. So, this is how. You need to source globally to enjoy this kind of prices.
And these prices are the result of particular situations happening in countries. Big groups know this fact well, so they send their buyers worldwide to negotiate the acquisitions. What you buy in big stores around the world and retail chains normally comes from these countries.
When the COVID insanity stops, the world will return free to travel, and the exhibits will become common again. I expect to see prices going down to speed the recovery after the halt of these months. This will mean that furniture will cost less to source, and these savings should be passed to the buyers.
If they arenu2019t, well, you can imagine where the money will stay. If you like my contents, check my activities in the Quora bio.Woodworking Library

Is TechShop dot ws a makerspace/learning centre?
Kathryn's answer is detailed and accurate. She spends a lot of time there, so I won't repeat her lists.
If you're not sure what's at TechShop, but you think might be of use, call or walk in sometime and ask to take a tour. They will generally accommodate you as long as someone is available to show you around, and the staff will be able to answer your questions directly.TechShop is a maker space, in the sense that it has resources for people who might want to make things.
They have both tools and people who can introduce you to the knowledge and skills to use them. The staff provide general help ("how do I use this machine?") to members on request, and can be hired to work on specific, in-depth project questions.
They have "safety and basic use" (SBU) classes, which are required before you can use the equipment, and they sometimes have optional classes to teach specific crafts or techniques.TechShop is great for designing and building your prototypes and making initial, short runs of things. I doubt it would quite take the place of a startup incubator (although it may be a good place for networking and getting in touch with some).
It also wouldn't take the place of a job shop, which is the sort of small- to medium-scale production facility you may want to seek out once you've got a design locked in and want to hire someone to make the next hundred or thousand units of something

5. How much does a CNC router cost?
A CNC router machine is designed to cut, drill, cart, and rout a variety of materials, including wood, plastics, rubber, acrylic and certain types of metal.
They are automated machines that operate with incredible accuracy and speed.CNC router machines used in variety of industries, including furniture design, circuit board manufacturing and plastics manufacturing. They can be used to carve wood, create moldings, design craft items - or the can be used to high-tech manufacturing.
The list of possibilities is quite long.Modern CNC router machines are much more efficient than the hand tools of the past. They rely on computers to tell the motors how far to move and where to cut.
You'll need an employee to set up the machine and tell it where to cut, but after that the process is entirely automated. The employee can walk away until the process is complete. There are several types of CNC routers, each with varying price ranges:Two-axis models are designed primarily for hobbyists.
Three- and four-axis models are the most common for industrial applications. The four-axis allows for more detailed carving work.Five-axis models are only used in very advanced and high-tech industries, such as automotive and aerospace.
Speed and automation are the greatest advantages CNC routers provide over traditional hand tools. You can accomplish jobs at a much faster pace and with fewer employees - saving both time and money.CNC Router Average CostsMost CNC machines cost tens of thousands of dollars.
But before you faint from sticker shock, consider the long-term savings the machines provide. The most basic of three-axis models sell for anywhere from $5,000 to $10,000.Mid-range machines used for panel processing and signage are likely to cost anywhere from $25,000 to $50,000.
High-end machines often cost $50,000 to $150,000.Additional CNC Router Costs and FeesIn addition to the machine itself, you'll need to purchase a computer-aided design (CAD) software package in order to create the designs. Those usually run anywhere from $2,500 to $10,000.
Training usually costs anywhere from $500 to $1,000 per day. Depending on the knowledge level of your staff, the process could take a few hours or several days. Installation also tends to run $500 to $1,000 per day.
Shipping starts at several hundred dollars and can cost up to $3,000.Some dealers offer packages that bundle the cost of the machine, training, shipping, and installation. So be sure to ask if a package like that is available before deciding on your purchase.

6. Are CAD and CAM the same as CNC machines?
CAD (Computer-Aided Design) and CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing) software are used extensively throughout the furniture-making industry.
CAD is a software package that assists the programmer to draw and design the product while CAM is a software package that assists the operator to run the CNC machine. CAD and CAM work together as a system. This means that a drawing done in CAD will automatically be configured in CAM.
Before the integration of a CAD/CAM system, CAM had to re-create the model produced by the CAD system before it could create a program. Now, once the machining operations to be performed are specified by the operator, CAM will automatically create the CNC program. When using a CAD/CAM system the programmer is able to:do all the programming on the computer, run a simulation on the screen to prove that the program works, anddownload the proven program to the CNC machine.
The operator is then able to specify the machining operations required and the CAM system will integrate these into a CNC program. Also, the link between CAD/CAM software and CNC machines increases productivity by:automatically translating the designs into instructions for the computer controller on the machine tool, andenabling programs to be modified for use on other jobs with similar specifications. With a graphic CAM system, you will receive visual feedback for each step of the program.
Another useful aspect of the graphic CAM system is its ability to do a tool path simulation. This is a computer animation that shows you exactly how the program will run on the CNC machine. If it doesn't work correctly, changes can be made before the actual running of the program.
This is called 'proving the program'. Saving and retrieving programsWhen a program has been proven, the programmer will usually need to store the program for future use.The most popular form of program transfer today is the personal computer a notebook, laptop, or desktop.
By connecting a cable to the personal computer and the CNC, the programmer can transfer programs from the computer to the CNC or from the CNC to the computer. Most CNC controls and personal computers have an RS-232-C communication serial port for cables to connect computers and machines. When the program is transferred to the CNC, the program will be ready for activation within the CNC control itself.
When the program is transferred back to the computer, the program can be saved on the computer hard drive, a floppy disk or a USB memory stick.
