Is it cheaper to build or buy furniture?
Speaking strictly in financial terms, is cheaper to build your own furniture. But you have to be clear of what kind of furniture are you thinking.
This is because a sofa, for example, can be considered a joint of wood, glue, leather or fabrics and some staples. But mostly, is not this way. A Barcelona Sofa is not only the mix of the materials that made it a whole piece.

What manufacturing equipment would you need to set up a midsize fully functioning furniture manufacturing business for residential use?
It depends on the kind of products you want to make.The machinery needed to manufacture upholstery products are much more different from the ones needed to manufacture small tables or chairs (and much less costly).
It also depends on what kind of material you want to use. You want to use wood - and in wood, timber or panels? Plastic?
Glass?And the kind of techniques you want to use, too. If you want to make Thonet-style bentwood objects you need some machinery, while if you plan to use basic cuts and joinery you need others.
All in all, it is not easy to tell you what you need. The basic wood machinery would be an assortment of fixed saws, planers, drills, sanders, jointers, and round-pole milling machines, both manual and CNC operated - but of course you could start from the very basic machines and use power tools for the less intensive operations, and then buy up.Feel free to contact me privately if you need any other professional info

Did any technological/scientific innovation contribute, even indirectly, to the end of the Cold War?
Yes, in a way.Ronald Reagan, with his declaration of using Star Wars anti ballistic missile technology, started a technology race the Soviets could not match.
They basically bankrupted an already tottering economic sytem trying to match this, and other high tech Western weapons developments.The Western military rearmament/upgrade began under President Carter, Reagan continued it. So, high tech in general spelled the end of the Soviet system(coupled with that good old capitalist tool--money)

Where should I buy my guitar?
Guitar Center or your local music shop may be the quickest way to buy a guitar. But it is not the cheapest way, as they operate for profit and they purchase instruments for a lower cost than what you will pay.Buy from a desperate person who is down on their luck and is on the way to try to sell a guitar in a hurry.
Stay away from the drug addicts. have a few hundred saved and then just wait for the opportunity while keeping your eyes peeled. the only way to get prices better than that is to buy from thieves and I don't recommend that.
There is also a good opportunity in broken stuff. you can buy broken guitars or project guitars on eBay for incredibly cheap and then you can throw a few hundred at your local luthier and get some parts and you can have a pretty decent guitar for less than what you would pay otherwise. it takes a lot of work but it strengthens your relationship with your luthier and ends you up with a custom instrument and that will always play better than the factory standard stuff!

Why do people buy woodworking benches? Arenu2019t they supposed to be able to make stuff out of wood?
Sometimes its a bootstrapping problem.
What do I mean by this? Its using the expression to pull oneself up by ones own bootstraps. So how does this apply?
Well, its a lot easier to build a woodworking bench if you have a bench to build it on. But if you already had the bench to build on, you wouldnt need the bench. The other answers are very good too.

Why aren't there any variants of the AK featuring lighter and more compact receivers and carrier groups with tighter tolerances?
the ak is famous for its reliability and low cost that is achieved through its loose tolerances. you could spend a whole lot of money redesigning it to build a compact race gun but it would cost more than other firearms that do the same thing.
AK are simple and if kept that way they work well start trying to make it perform better and it becomes unreliable and a unreliable gun is just a fancy toy to show off at the range nothing wrong with that but its not what your looking for when you buy an ak.

How does industrial design look like and what is the future of it ? Is industrial design linked to engineering or science at least a bit?
Does it have much common with computer technologies now?
Industrial design is a creative profession which does all types of physical product design, from vehicles to furniture to mass produced products to aircraft interiors, and so on. Itu2019s a distinct degree program at many universities and design schools, covering both technical and creative topics.
It will have a future as long as society has a need for new and better products. Itu2019s related to engineering, but more practical and concerned with aesthetics and ergonomics rather than just the technical aspect. Engineers and industrial designers often work together to resolve details and get a product into production.
It uses computers to help create designs and make prototypes, with CAD software, 3D printers and CNC machining.

How big is the potential of 3D printing in India?
3D printing has a very bright future not only in India but everywhere in the world.As my thoughts go, I think 3D printing is going to be the next revolution just like the IT revolution. Here are some interesting thoughts which I have about 3D printing.
1. Today's young generation is very fascinated of smart phones. They change their phones very often.
Just imagine how great it would be to print a smartphone of one's choice instead of spending money on each purchase.2. It would be awesome to print fancy clothes and other stuffs.
3. For disabled people, it would be of a great social help to 3D print the devices to help them overcome their disability.4.
It would of a great significance to middle class people, as their spendings would reduce by a large amount.5. And how awesome would it be to print a 3D printer itself?
3D printers have a great deal of uses, especially for underdeveloped and developing countries. My ideas were just preliminary.

In china, we all go to Taobao. this is toys. This sofa in taobaoShops and market are almost dying in china.
Wholesale which can stay low price still can alive now.If any country wants to develops E-bussiness,you have to ready the traditional market will dead and workers in shop will losing all the jobs. The most important reasons is that, china is so call "factory of the world" .
It means that this country produce almost everything in the world and the price is much cheaper than markets.In Taobao, not only selling clothing, house appliance,and cell phone. Everything legals in the world you can buy in taobao.

Why isn't 3D printing a very big deal already?
Because contrary to popular belief, you can't just print any 3D figure.
3D printer works by depositing material(mostly polymers) in layers. So you can't print, say, a hollow cube, or a sphere. If you need to print a sphere for example, you need to print two hemispheres and join them later.
Moreover, it takes a lot of time to print even a simple object. So it's easier to buy that 3D object, if available in the market than to print it.

Will woodworking and carpentry ever become obsolete professions?
In my opinion no, woodworking and carpentry can never become obsolete professions, because the requirement of furniture and construction will be forever. Everyday a new building is coming up, be it a residential building or a commercial building, so they will always be requirement of woodworking and carpentry

Should I go to college for industrial design or start making furniture and selling online? I'm 31, newly married and wanting to start a family soon.
Just get in and do it. College isnt going to teach you anything you cant teach yourself. Almost invariably, the most talented people are entirely self-taught.
Dont delay, just get in and make the business you want. I started my first real business at 16, while still at senior school. My first not-so-real business was in pre-school (prep, kindy, whatever you want to call it).
All of my businesses have been developed from nothing. They have all become valuable businesses because I just kept at it, and I got out there to tell people about what we were doing.Do it!

Are electric guitars costing over 2 grand worth it?
The only ones that can answer this question are the ones that purchase these guitars.I've been playing guitar for almost 55 years in 2020.
A few years ago, I bought a Taylor 814ce acoustic/electric guitar. With case; it was $3,300. 00.
Sure, it was a GREAT guitar, and the quality was top notch; but- , it was not me, and I soon traded it in.I've since owned guitars that were 1/3 the price of that Taylor, and they are the best Ive owned in almost 55 years a guitar player.Bottom line?
Ive learned that more expensive is not always better, and: The only ones that can answer that question Are they worth it? are the ones that play them.

There are things I want to do that take time and hardwork.
However, when it comes time to do said things, I get this strong urge to just be lazy and watch YouTube or something. Why is this and how can I fix it?

They say we are the sum of our experiences, and I know that no one has experience the exact same things as me, in the same order, or at the same time. We may all have very similar experiences, but each one is unique to us, and how we handle it, process it, and react to it is all unique to the individual. My past experiences shape my reality, as does my heritage, genetics, upbringing, culture, temperment etc.
